Our story begins with the late Joseph Kateeba who was born in 1938 in Kyaaka, Kyegegwa District. While the late Joseph Kateeba had a humble beginning, he was always highly driven, hardworking and focused. He attended St Leo’s College Kyegobe and St Mary’s College Kisubi before pursuing an Undergraduate and Master’s degrees from University of West Virginia in the USA.
In 1984, the late Joseph Kateeba decided to start a mattress manufacturing factory and initially planned to locate it in Kasese. He registered his company as Kasese Foam Limited and later changed the name to Crest Foam Limited. He used personal savings to purchase land in Ntinda Industrial Area where he constructed the first factory buildings. He obtained financing from East Development Bank and used those funds to purchase production machines and raw materials.
On 09 October 1987, Crest Foam successfully had its first production run. By 1990, Crest Foam was the second largest manufacturer of mattresses in Uganda.
Unfortunately, the late Joseph Kateeba passed away on 29 May 1992. He left behind an organization with a strong foundation and his contribution remains significant till today.
