The BYD F3DM is a plug-in hybrid vehicle featuring a dual-mode powertrain. It utilizes a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder gasoline engine and two electric motors. The primary 50 kW motor drives the wheels, while a secondary 25 kW motor can assist with propulsion or act as a generator for regenerative braking. The F3DM can operate in full-electric mode until the battery charge drops to 20%, at which point it switches to hybrid mode, engaging the gasoline engine to recharge the battery.
