Product Descriptions
In this book all topics are properly covered as stipulated in 2012 Primary Curriculum. Science being a practical subject, emphasis has been put on activities and competences that make earners “hands on” with the ultimate goal of developing the required competences, knowledge skills and values.
The book encourages learners to use new vocabularies in sentences depending on the words given in a topic. This will go a long way to prompt learners to read, comprehend, and develop a reading culture, critical thinking and creativity.
The activities, experiments and project work set, are all designed to make the Science lesson “learner-centred”. This is the only way of making learners full participants in the lessons. This enables the learners to acquire language and subject competences, life skills and desired values with ease and spontaneously.
The book is user friendly because examples given are drawn from the learner’s experience and locality, thus enabling learners to develop scientific concepts from known to abstract. Instructional materials for all activities and experiments are derived from the local community. It encourages the usage of available, cheap and sometimes no cost materials obtainable from the locality.
This book emphasises utilization of the environment as a resource base for all Science lessons. The book accommodates all the three levels of learning namely knowledge, comprehension and application. The assessment has been done in form of activities and project work.
The major methods used to achieve the desired subject competences, skills and values include experimentation, discovery, inquiry, role-play, dramatisation, discussion and brain storming. The book caters for learners with special needs in both activities and methods and the teacher has been reminded to consider these learners in his/her class before conducting a lesson.
